During the visit and work in Australia from July 31 to August 3, 2024, on the morning of August 1, the delegation of the Ministry of Finance led by Minister Ho Duc Phoc visited and worked with the Embassy of Vietnam in Australia, in the capital Canberra, Australia.
At the working session, the Ministry of Finance of Vietnam was represented by Mai Xuan Thanh, Director General of the General Department of Taxation; Tran Quan, Director General of the State Treasury; Vu Thi Chan Phuong, Chairwoman of the State Securities Commission; Dinh Ngoc Thang, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs; along with several leaders from units under the Ministry of Finance, and leaders of banks and enterprises in Vietnam.

Ambassador Pham Hung Tam of Vietnam to Australia, along with the leaders and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, warmly welcomed the delegation from the Ministry of Finance. Minister Ho Duc Phoc expressed his gratitude for the gracious reception and discussed the delegation's upcoming activities in Australia. These activities include meetings with various government agencies, businesses, and investors to encourage investment cooperation between Vietnam and Australia, particularly in the financial investment sector.
The Minister also emphasized the increased potential for comprehensive cooperation in economics and trade between the two countries, following the elevation of their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership after Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited Australia in March 2024. He expressed hope that the Ambassador and the Embassy's staff would serve as a pivotal link, sharing crucial information to facilitate investment and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Australia.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also provided an overview of the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Australia, particularly after the official establishment of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The overall view of the working session
Since the two countries officially became Comprehensive Strategic Partners just 5 months ago, several activities and socio-economic indicators have seen significant progress. Trade turnover in the first 5 months of 2024 has increased by 6%, with Vietnam's export turnover to Australia growing by 31%. People-to-people exchange has also flourished, with around 33,000 Vietnamese students currently studying in Australia, ranking 5th in the total number of international students in the country. Additionally, various activities, financial cooperation, and business partnerships between the two countries have shown improvement. Ambassador Pham Hung Tam expressed his hope that the visit of the Minister and the working delegation, along with Australian enterprises and investment funds, will lead to more opportunities for economic and trade cooperation, especially in attracting financial investment and fostering stronger and more effective business development between the two countries.

During the meeting, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam briefed the delegation on the functioning of the Embassy and emphasized that the Embassy's leaders and staff are committed to fulfilling the tasks assigned by the State and the people and serving as an active link to enhance the relationship between the two countries.
Expressing gratitude for the positive information regarding the collaboration between Vietnam and Australia in the past, the Minister stated that the Ministry of Finance will continue to explore solutions to promote financial cooperation between the two nations. "We will focus on the issues raised by the Ambassador, and based on our assessment, we will work with relevant agencies to facilitate smoother and more effective operation of the Embassy," the Minister shared.
Later that day, Minister Ho Duc Phoc and the delegation are scheduled to hold a working session with the Australian Treasury and the Clean Energy Regulator (CER) in Canberra, Australia./.
