Vietnam is forecast to face a trade deficit of US$6.9 billion this year, compared with US$17.516 billion last year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

 

The country’s exports will fall 10 per cent on year to US$56 billion (excluding US$2.2 billion worth of gold export), said the ministry.

 

Meanwhile, Vietnam is estimated to spend US$65.1 billion on imports this year, down 19 per cent on-year, added the MoIT.

 

In Jan-May, Vietnam had a trade deficit of US$1.13 billion, compared with US$11.57 billion of the same period last year, said the government’s General Statistics Office.

 

The country reaped US$22.86 billion from goods exports during the time, down 6.8 per cent on-year, of which domestic firms contributed US$12 billion, up 12 per cent on-year and foreign invested firms with US$10.85 billion, down 21.4 per cent.

 

It imported US$23.99 billion, down 37 per cent on-year, including US$15.5 billion from domestic firms, down 41.5 per cent and US$8.48 billion from foreign-invested ones, down 26.9 per cent.
