Vietnam has sold shares in 13 state-run enterprises (SOE) so far this year out of 24 enterprises that have been restructured.

The process is moving more slowly than last year. The country sold shares in 73 SOEs last year, and between 2001 and 2006, the country restructured 500 SOEs each year on average.

The Ministry of Finance attributes the slow privatization process in large-scaled SOEs partly to the effects of the economic crisis this year.

Recently, the government has said it will approve a plan in the third quarter of 2009 to change all 100 per cent state-owned companies into joint stock and limited liability firms beginning July 1, 2010.

Vietnam plans to sell shares in 948 SOEs between 2008 and 2010.
